Privacy Notice

1. Who we are
This website, worldcopdday.org (the “Site”), is operated by Alliance for Health Implementation Science, Inc. (“AHIS,” “we,” “us”), a Delaware nonprofit corporation based in Thousand Oaks, California. AHIS is responsible for the personal information collected through the Site.
World COPD Day is an annual observance led by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). This Site is independently operated by AHIS and is not affiliated with or endorsed by GOLD. Questions: info@ahis.org.
2. What we collect
Information you give us. The Site has three forms:
- The word cloud (“How does COPD make you feel?”): one word and your country. We don’t ask for your name, contact details or any health information, and the word cloud shows only words and countries.
- Stay in touch: your name, email address and, if you choose, your organization, what you’d like to do and a message. We use these to send World COPD Day updates and reply to you.
- The partner wall: your name, email address, organization, and, if you choose, your website, logo and a message. We use these to review your request and, with your permission, to show your organization’s name and logo on the Site.
Please don’t include personal medical details in any form. If you email info@ahis.org, we receive what you send.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, date and time) to operate and secure the Site.
Site analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and links people use. It sets cookies in your browser and collects information such as the pages you view, the site that sent you, your general location (city or region), and your device and browser type. We see this only as totals, not as individual visitors.
3. What we don’t do
We don’t use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or retargeting. The only cookies the Site sets are Google Analytics cookies, used to count visits (see section 2). We don’t show ads. We don’t sell or rent your personal information, or share it for advertising. The Site’s fonts and images are served from the Site itself, not from third-party font or image services.
4. How we use your information
To answer your messages and send updates you asked for. To show the word cloud and the partner wall. To report campaign results in aggregate (visits, link clicks, word cloud totals); reports do not identify individuals. To operate, protect and improve the Site, and to meet legal obligations.
5. The word cloud and the partner wall
Words chosen from the list appear in the word cloud right away. Words you type yourself appear only after we review them. We may decline any word, for example a name or anything that could identify someone. Word cloud entries are deleted within 12 months of receipt; totals may be kept in reports. Partner wall details are kept while your organization is listed and for 12 months after. To ask for earlier deletion, or to have your organization removed, write to info@ahis.org.
6. Service providers
AHIS staff and contractors may use your information only for AHIS’s work on the Site, bound by confidentiality. We use:
- Netlify, Inc. (United States): website hosting, form submissions and server logs
- Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft 365): email
- Google LLC (Google Analytics): site visit and link-click counts. You can block Google Analytics with your browser’s cookie settings or Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Rabble Health, under contract with AHIS: reach and analytics, including short links and click counts (Rebrandly) and site analytics
7. How long we keep it
Messages and Stay in touch details: for as long as needed to respond and send updates, until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Word cloud entries: deleted within 12 months of receipt. Partner wall details: as described in section 5. Server logs: per our hosting provider’s standard retention. Analytics data: according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics account (14 months).
8. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by writing to info@ahis.org. You can unsubscribe from updates at any time. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable law.
9. Do Not Track and California privacy
We use Google Analytics to understand how the Site is used over time, including whether visitors return. We do not use it to track you across other websites or for advertising. The Site does not currently respond differently to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals; you can block analytics cookies as described in section 6. California: this notice is intended to meet CalOPPA. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
10. Children
The Site is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect personal information, including HTTPS and limited access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Links to other websites
The Site links to other websites, including GOLD’s World COPD Day resources; lung health organizations in Australia, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and worldwide (listed on the Site); AlphaNet; the Big Baton Pass; and social media. Their privacy practices are their own; we encourage you to read their policies.
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site.
